VF-202 was commissioned on 25 July 1970 from the assets of decom¬missioned VF-53D2 (see VF-703). The Superheats flew the F-8H until it was replaced with F-4 Phantoms in 1976. The Phantoms gave way to F-14As, which are still flown today.
VF-202 F-8H is launched from the USS Kenndey In August 1971. 202's aircraft had their rudders painted to simulate the Texas flag. (Vaught) CDR TEX ELLIOTT CAG-20's F-8H 148687 on 5-20-74. VF-202 insignia was on the fin tip. (Roos)
